Blackpool and the Lake District

Most of the weather we had in Britain was quite good with only a couple of soggy days and those were travel ones..one of which included a stopover in Blackpool at the Imperial Hotel. This was a grande dame Victorian era place facing out to the water...we did wander around the next morning to check the place out..I know in the past it was a holiday destination - being by the sea and is kind of on the Niagara Falls tourist kitsch end of things but we enjoyed our night there...

Some mermaids...

They even have streetcars like us!

Then it was on to the Lake District and a visit to Dove Cottage home of celebrated Romantic poet William Wordsworth...such a gorgeous area, you can see how it would inspire an artist..

The Kia Venga which proved very comfortable and reliable..

Our stopover here was at the Acorn Inn in Keswick - a charming town that put me in mind of Banff or Jasper...we even had a yummy veg meal here - so warming soup and I think another "flapjack"...

It was magical walking down to the lake at dusk...I can see why it's a popular hiking spot...

Speaking of magical - our next stop would be Loch Lomond where I immediately felt at home...must be the connection to the Scottish ancestors....
