Del Dako

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of this incredible musician and delightful spirit today. Del passed away on September 19th. I got to know him a bit through a friend of ours from Edmonton - enjoying his newfound vibes playing on a few occasions at C'est What.

In case you didn't know, for many years he was one of Canada's finest baritone saxophone players.  Because of a serious cycling accident in 2001 Del had to abandon his first love but with typical enthusiasm discovered another way to channel his talents on vibraphone.

You could always count on him to sport one of his colourful shirts!

What I admired most about Del was his amazing joie de vivre - finding joy in life and living it to the fullest. He  was an inspiration - he loved the great outdoors. Along the way he worked with many fine musicians including supporting many wonderful up and coming musicians.

I hope there is a memorial service of some kind as I'm sure many would love to pay their respects to this charming individual. Thank you for the music and inspiration Del.
